Burlybed Soft Extra is made from 100% chopped wheat straw with the added extra benefit of naturally antiseptic eucalyptus and soothing aloe vera.

Wheat is one of the most common crops grown across the UK, mainly milling wheat that is ground down for flour. The by-product of this crop is the straw that has been traditionally used for animal bedding for many years.

We source high quality, UK grown wheat straw and process it right here on the farm. During the production process, the raw material is shredded and dust extracted to produced a finely chopped, ultra soft and free draining product that is then baled, stacked, wrapped and sent on its way to our stockists.

We have added the extra benefit of a unique formulation of naturally antiseptic eucalyptus and soothing aloe vera. Our exclusive treatment is 100% natural, creating a hygienic and fresh environment, helping to combat and mask odours and acting as a deterrent for those horses tempted to eat bedding. 

Eucalyptus was chosen for its naturally antibacterial properties and fresh scent. Combined with the soothing features of aloe vera, this formulation makes a great addition to our bedding.

HOW DO I USE Burlybed Soft extra?

You can use our bedding however suits your horse and your own stable management, but for the very best results, we suggest a deep bed. A deep bed allows wet to drain through and be absorbed at the base keeping the surface dry. The droppings on the surface can be easily removed. The chop size is designed to easily fall through your fork reducing wastage. 

In an average 12’x12’ stable we recommend using 4 – 6 bales to set up a bed. Top up when necessary.

HOW QUICKLY DOES IT ROT DOWN?

As a natural product, it rots down quicker than shavings and can be spread straight on the land with no negative effect.

IS IT COMPLETELY DUST FREE?

We take the time to double dust extract Burlybed Soft Extra in its processing. We would never claim to be 100% dust free. What we can say is that it has low dust content.

CAN THE BAGS BE RECYCLED?

Yes! We choose our packaging to be functional and durable to protect our products while they are our with our stockists and customers but we also consider the environmental impact. We use Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE) which in simple terms is exactly the same as a supermarket bag for life. This plastic is 100% recyclable. Our packaging is also made from one third recycled material that would have otherwise been destined for landfill. Many local authorities accept LDPE as part of their  recycling schemes so we always advise our customers to check with their local authority.
